  • Dan Melvin, PE

    FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL ENGINEER

    Dan Melvin is the Founder and Principal Engineer of Melvin Engineering, bringing over 11 years of experience in civil engineering and land development. As a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Dan has worked on a wide range of projects, from residential and commercial developments to master-planned communities and infrastructure, with expertise in all phases of planning, design, and construction.

    Dan values collaboration and integrity in every project, focusing on understanding his clients' goals and delivering thoughtful, practical solutions. He is known for his ability to balance the big picture with the details, ensuring that each project is well-executed and provides an elevated client experience.

    Prior to founding Melvin Engineering, Dan spent 10 years at LandDesign, where he developed his skills in managing multidisciplinary projects. In 2024, he was honored to serve as President of NAIOP Charlotte, a reflection of his dedication to the industry. He remains actively involved in organizations like ULI, ASCE, and the Charlotte Water Advisory Committee, where he enjoys contributing to the professional community.

    Dan earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Florida State University and approaches his work with a commitment to professionalism, reliability, and building long-term client relationships.

  • Laura Melvin, PE

    DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

    Laura Melvin is the Director of Operations at Melvin Engineering, bringing 10 years of experience in civil and structural engineering. As a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), she has developed expertise in quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and process improvement. While her past work focused on large-scale public infrastructure projects, her current role is all about keeping things running smoothly at Melvin Engineering.

    Laura supports the firm’s engineering and consulting efforts by leading peer reviews, QA/QC processes, project controls, and documentation. Known for her attention to detail and professionalism, she ensures every project benefits from efficient systems and careful oversight.

    Before joining Melvin Engineering, Laura spent a decade at STV working on major projects for clients like CATS, NCDOT, and SCDOT. Although she’s no longer focused on structural engineering, that experience has shaped her approach to delivering high-quality results and tackling complex challenges.

    Laura earned her B.S. in Civil Engineering from Florida State University. She’s driven by a commitment to integrity, transparency, and quality, and plays a key role in keeping Melvin Engineering running at its best while supporting exceptional outcomes for clients.
